How to Improve Your Strategy for 2021

One of the most common challenges we’ve seen in our 20 years of working with churches is a lack of longterm strategy. Now that we are in the digital age, (accelerated by the pandemic), having a strategy that includes your digital ministry is more important than ever. In fact, it should no longer be seen as a separate part of your ministry.

As a church leader, here are some questions you should go over with your team:

  • What’s your vision for the next 5 years? (What do you believe your church will to look like? What will change and what will stay the same?)
  • Who are you trying to reach? (Who are you equipped to serve really well?)
  • How are you reaching them now? (What’s already working for you? What’s driving growth?)
  • If you’re losing people, why are they leaving? (What are they choosing instead?)
  • How are you perceived in your community? (Is the perception true? Do you need to change it?)
  • What are your goals for trying a new strategy? (How will you know you’re having success? What metrics will you measure?)
  • Who does what on your team? (Who takes ownership and drives each goal?)

A new, clear perspective on how your church does ministry in 2021 and beyond should include in-person gatherings and online environments — with both in-person next steps and digital ones. They should be completely woven together, into one comprehensive way you “do” church.

Throughout the year, you should revisit and revise strategies. Always keep your church moving forward, evaluating, and reevaluating. Why? Because our world is changing and ways to reach people are changing with it. Don’t miss out or get left behind.
